Heart and Vascular
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the US, affecting more than one of three US adults and claiming approximately one million lives each year. Mission Health is a leader in cardiovascular care - top 2 percent of national heart centers - yet despite clinical excellence, we face great challenges. In western North Carolina, a region that is older, poorer and sicker than other populations across the state, we die 50 percent more frequently from CVD than the rest of the people in North Carolina, which is one of the least healthy states in the nation. This translates to an important call to action to improve our region's access to world-class care to best serve families in western North Carolina impacted by CVD.
