A New McDowell Hospital
Individuals who checked into the hospital for a birth or surgery were there for a relatively long time. Today, medical innovation has made many procedures ambulatory, with a patient walking in and out of the hospital on the same day. The new hospital will reflect this reality, with a total of 30 inpatient beds, five of those with dedicated state-of-the-art labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum (LDRP) suites with a dedicated C-section suite.
Having a new hospital for McDowell will allow for better emergency care. Emergency care is one of the key needs in any rural hospital. With the link to Mission Health, emergency care has evolved into a region-wide system equipped with the following key features: an updated, well-staffed emergency department that can handle patients with any trauma and stabilize any medical emergency situation; Mountain Area Medical Airlift (MAMA), which enables rapid helicopter transportation to specialized trauma centers.
